On Sunday, July 10, Rice Magazine art director Alese Pickering and photographer Jeff Fitlow met Becky Wade ’12 on campus for a roving photo shoot that included a stop in the amazing map hallway located in Keith-Weiss Geological Laboratories. Wade has just published “Run the World: My 3,500-Mile Journey Through Running Cultures Around the Globe” (William Morrow, 2016), and we’re including most of the Introduction in the summer issue. Wade has been called “America’s best young marathoner” by Runner’s World magazine, after she won the California International Marathon, her debut at that distance, in 2013. At Rice, Wade was star in the 10K distance, and she’s also qualified for the Olympic Trials in steeplechase. After graduation, Wade spent a year traveling the world studying runners and running cultures courtesy of a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship. Wade is currently based in Houston.
